Hello everyone. I'm T, an editor who loves stylish lights and lighting.
There are many things in the world that can help you relax, such as aquariums, lighting, and aromatherapy.
And I imagine that the purpose of these things is "healing."
Then you should definitely add this product to your relaxation routine!
This time, we would like to introduce some beautiful products that are packed with these new soothing elements.
The name is "Undrop."
It's your own healing time.
What do you get with Undrop?
Achieve deep, comfortable relaxation for both body and mind
Undrop gives you moments of silence and peace.
This product, created through the application of science, features water droplets rising as if defying gravity, accompanied by beautiful light; simply gazing at this brings a sense of peace to your mind.
It also supports aromatherapy, allowing you to be visually soothed while being filled with pleasant scents, helping to bring both your body and mind into a state of deep relaxation.
Each piece is handmade by a craftsman

Undrop was born at Design Festa, one of the largest design events in Japan, and following the positive reaction it received there, it was launched on the crowdfunding site Makuake.
Undrop has received a huge response on Makuake, far exceeding its target amount just one week after the project was launched, and is now a product that is attracting a lot of attention.
Undrop is a completely custom-made product, with each product being handcrafted by a single developer.
As a result, the amount that can be produced each day is very limited, and each and every one is filled with the developer's passion for the product.
Great for a variety of situations
Undrop can be enjoyed in a variety of situations, regardless of location, such as at home or in a store.
For a relaxing moment at home

The water droplets floating gently have a mysterious charm.
Looking at this when you're feeling tired from the day can have a mindfulness-like meditative effect.
As an aroma diffuser

The Undrop unit is equipped with a fan that spreads the aroma of the aroma.
By adding a few drops of commercially available aroma oil, you can transform the space into one that is not only visually soothing but also relaxes your sense of smell.
As indirect lighting

Undrop is equipped with LEDs, so it can also be enjoyed as indirect lighting.
Also, when you are not using aromatic oil, you can turn off the fan and enjoy the swaying of the water droplets in silent mode.
It also has a "desk light mode" that stops the movement of the water droplets and turns on only the LED.
The variety of ways to enjoy it will improve your quality of life at home.
Equipped with 3 operating modes
It creates movement of water droplets but the small fan does not rotate.
The scent will not spread as easily, but this mode is suitable for quiet operation.
As with the aroma diffusion mode, you can change the movement of the water droplets by pressing the drop rise/fall buttons.
Only the LED light will be turned on.
Conversation starters outside the home

Undrop is a product that is very eye-catching due to the movement of the water droplets, so it is suitable for use outside the home, such as in stores.
It could also be a great conversation starter as part of a company reception desk or store interior.
✔ In dark places such as restaurants and bars
✔ At the reception desk of hospitals, beauty salons, etc.
✔ In a relaxing space such as a hotel or inn
✔ In the company reception room
The warmth of natural wood provides healing.

Undrop's cases are made with great care, as each piece of natural wood is thinly sliced and then pasted onto the case.
The wood's edges stick to your hands, making you want to touch them forever.
Developer interview

Thank you for your cooperation today.
First of all, please tell us what inspired you to create Undrop.

I roughly wrote about the development story behind what started it all on Makuake, but to start with the parts that I didn't write about there, I originally had a desire to create things on my own, and when I was a university student I was heavily influenced by Horiemon. I tried to become like Horiemon by making a website and, although it wasn't something tangible, I also tried to create an IT service, but it didn't work out.
I got a regular job as a systems engineer at an IT company, but I still wanted to try making something on my own, and I was always thinking about what interesting thing I could make.
At that time, I happened to see the work of an artist named Jehème Tarrell, and it occurred to me that if I made it into a size that could be reproduced at home, it would be interesting and might sell, so I started developing it from there.

What did you focus on when creating the product?

In terms of the concept, it's something like an amazing science toy, and I think there are a lot of toys out there that explore science and technology that the general public doesn't know much about and that children will enjoy.
In the midst of all this, Undrop has narrowed its target audience down to adults. We want to sell to people who love interior design and as fashionable goods. So we thought about the luxurious look and aimed to create something that can be used as interior design.
A common thing that happens with home appliances is that even if you buy something thinking it's great at first, you get tired of it over time and stop using it.
Even if that happens, we have added functionality to make it usable as a light on a daily basis.
That's why we created it with the concept of something that can be used for a long time.

Did you encounter any challenges while creating Undrop?

There were various things that could be made into a wall. It looks like the water droplets are floating, but it took a long time to recreate the beautiful shape of the droplets.
Durability is also an important issue when considering actual use, but the very first prototype we made was fragile and broke after a total of 36 hours of operation, or a day and a half.
We realized that this would not be possible to commercialize, so we thought about making a product that could actually be used, and the most difficult part was fundamentally rethinking the mechanism behind how water droplets are created and increasing durability.

Is there any message you want to convey to the world through your products?

I make everything by myself, so one of the themes was to make things without spending a lot of money. However, when it comes to actually making things, it costs millions, or even tens of millions, to make molds and so on, so I felt that it is difficult to make products by one person.
This time, instead of making a mold, I used tools such as a laser cutter and a 3D printer to the extent that I could as an individual and was able to create something that could be sold.
There are methods that you can do alone, like I do, but even if you're not alone, I think that if the number of people who make things as an extension of their personal hobbies continues to increase, even more interesting products will come out, so I would like to talk a little about that.

Thank you very much!
Summary

Through this interview, my impression after using the Undrop device was that I was able to experience the healing effect of being able to enter a meditation mode.
Just watching the movement of the water droplets draws you into a strangely unique worldview.
The world is full of all sorts of entertainment and pastimes, as well as tough jobs and worries, and we all spend our days trying to produce what we want, but Undrop is here to soothe our souls on those tiring days.
It was a product that gave me that feeling.
Wouldn't it be nice to forget about the everyday happenings and soak in the healing power of these drops of water?
