Voice recorders are useful in a variety of situations, such as interviews, meetings, and lectures, and I think they're an essential item for writers to have on hand at all times.
After the voice recording, what we need is a text transcription of the recorded audio.
If you think about it, don't you think that if this task, which many of us do every day, could be made easier, we could use our free time more meaningfully?
This time, we will introduce you to an amazing voice recorder that will make that dream come true!
It's called "AutoMamo"!
This is a revolutionary gadget that overturns conventional wisdom about voice recording.
What is AutoMemo?
AutoMemo is a voice recorder that can automatically transcribe audio into text using a dedicated app while recording it.
I'm sure all of us writers have been waiting for such an innovative product.
At least I tried it this time and thought, "I want it!"
Because it might free us from the hassle of transcribing text, right? Just thinking about it gets me excited. I definitely want writers to try it out!
Let me introduce you to AutoMemo!
AutoMemoWhat's in the box

The outer box is simple and clean. Simple packaging is popular. I like it. It's also very easy to open.

Introducing the included items.
- AutoMemo main unit
- Charging cable
- Start guide
- User registration card & warranty card
- Please read first
The above five points make up a very simple structure. The start guide is also only two pages long, so it seems the developer is very confident in the ease of understanding.
Appearance Specifications

Next, the external specifications. At the bottom there is a USB-Type-C charging terminal and a stereo mini plug terminal for connecting to a PC to record web conferences, etc.

On the right side are the power button and Wi-Fi lamp.

There is an omnidirectional microphone on the top.

The interface has a start and stop recording button at the top, and the bottom button can be pressed while recording to add bookmarks to the transcribed text.
I actually tried recording AutoMemo.

This time, I was once again helped by Ms. Kaneko Misuzu to record a reading.
How to record

The operation is very simple. First, press and hold the power button on the right side to turn on the device.

Then, the record button of the AutoMemo app that you have set up will flash slowly. If you press and hold the record button in this state, recording will start.

To stop recording, press and hold the record button.
The recorded data is then transferred via Wi-Fi to a cloud service that has been set up in advance using a dedicated app, and the data recorded using the same app is automatically transcribed.
There is no need for the troublesome task of transferring data to a PC, etc.
Easily transcribe your recordings!
Sorry for the hoarse voice as always haha
I tried recording the reading like this.

You can then transcribe the data transferred from the voice recorder to the app.
This is the dawn of civilization!
The positioning of line breaks and other things are automated, so this is left to the AI, but I think it passes muster.
About transcription accuracy

As for the crucial accuracy of the transcription, I think it is quite high.
個人的な感想ですが、I felt that it was about the same accuracy as Vrew, or maybe slightly better than AutoMemo.
*We haven't tested it with a large number of people, so it's unknown how it will turn out...
Either way, with just a little revision, it is of a quality that can be used as a manuscript as is.
The age of convenience has arrived!
Furthermore, the transcribed text data can be shared via email or other social media, allowing you to immediately get to work on your PC.
This is a useful point!
AutoMemo has some useful features.
Let me introduce some of them.
Tap to jump to the playback position

The recorded audio and the transcribed text are synchronized, so you can play the relevant part by simply tapping.
This is useful for checking and rewriting parts that were not completely transcribed.
Bookmark function

See the horizontal lines between the text?
This is the bookmark function. Press the button on the bottom of the AutoMemo unit during recording to insert a bookmark.
For example, by using the bookmark function when the meeting topic changes or when an important topic comes up, you can quickly find the relevant place.
The bookmark feature can be added even after the transcription is complete, making it a very useful feature!
Fast forward and slow playback functions

You can change the audio playback speed.
This is also useful for checking any parts that could not be fully converted into the transcription.
Automatic transcription features are useful, but they're not perfect, so make use of these tools to rewrite your text as needed to create your manuscript!
Data management is easy with the cloud!

The data is not stored in the AutoMemo device itself, and cannot be played back.
When you connect to a Wi-Fi environment, the audio files and transcribed data will be automatically saved to your own cloud service specified in the dedicated app, and you can view the audio files and transcribed data via the dedicated app or email.
It's a very smart design that makes work go faster.
All the user has to do is press the record button. The rest is left to the AI!
How to use the Plan app
Here we would like to explain the details of the various AutoMemo plans and how to use the dedicated app.
Cost-effective plans tailored to your needs

I don't usually record interviews for long periods of time for written manuscripts, but if you're a writer, you'll probably use up the free one hour per month plan in no time.
But the paid plans are cheap considering the features they offer!
This is where the manufacturer's efforts come in. I think it's a convenient pricing plan.
How to use the AutoMemo app
I would like to briefly explain how to use the dedicated AutoMemo app.

First, install the dedicated AutoMemo app. When you launch the app, the screen on the right will appear, so tap "Next".

The terms and conditions will appear, so read them carefully and then tap "Agree".
Next, link your account with your Apple ID or Google ID.

Tap OK to allow the use of Bluetooth and loading will begin.

This completes the Bluetooth pairing. Next, set up Wi-Fi. Currently, AutoMemo only supports the 2.4GHz band, so select your home Wi-Fi line that ends with "2G."

Select a rate plan. If you are just trying it out, the "Basic Plan" is fine. You can change the rate plan later.
Once you have made this selection, the setup will be completed successfully and you will be redirected to the app's main screen.
Next, set up the cloud where the voice recorder will record.
Tap the three bars in the top left of the screen.

A menu will then open, so tap "Cloud Linkage."
This will take you to the screen on the right, where you need to tap "Add connection."

Choose one of the three cloud services:
Once the cloud connection is complete, you can start using AutoMemo!
Now try actually recording.
The recorded data will then appear as shown in the screen on the right. This completes the basic setup. Enjoy using AutoMemo to your heart's content!

By the way, if you tap the three vertical ... buttons on the top right of the text data, a "Share" button will appear as shown in the right screen. From here, you can transfer the recorded audio and text data to your favorite SNS, email, messenger, etc.
This is convenient! It saves me the trouble of having to connect to a PC to transfer data.

Announcement of new pricing structure!

We've just launched a new service that allows you to transcribe audio data recorded on devices other than AutoMemo using the AutoMemo app!
This is so revolutionary! The drawback of transcribing with Vrew is that the transcribed text is divided into one sentence at a time, which makes it a little difficult to use.
With AutoMemo, this isn't an issue, and you can easily transcribe data recorded with the familiar gun microphone.
Yet,This service is still in beta and can be used free of charge until August 2021, 8.

Summary

Voice recorders are no longer just for recording; they are now also capable of automatic transcription using AI!
From the author's point of view, I would really like an LCD screen. The only drawback is that you can't see the recording time or battery life.
However, it is still very usable due to its simple operation and transcription accuracy, and we can expect further updates in the future. It is rare to come across such a high-performance gadget.
Writers, why not take this opportunity to try out a new generation voice recorder?
I'm sure you'll be amazed at how functional it is.
