Have you heard of the term "home camping"?
By definition, it is an indoor activity that involves utilizing empty space in your home (indoors, outdoors, garage, balcony, etc.) to pitch a tent and enjoy the atmosphere of camping outside.
I also want to start serious camping next year, but I don't have all the camping equipment yet, so after wondering what to start with, I decided on a lantern.
This time, I would like to introduce the warmth that these lanterns create in the space.
I hope that through the lantern you will be able to experience the enjoyment of "home camping."
I bought a real oil lantern.
It's been two and a half years since this website was launched, and we have introduced a variety of gadgets and services, but recently we've decided to take on a new challenge: we'd like to start "camping" privately with our partner.
I've been looking at various websites and YouTube, and searching for the ideal camping gear in a memo app. However, it's quite difficult to get a full set of camping equipment, so I thought I'd try to do something like camping at home first."Home Camping".
And as a first step, we chose items that can be enjoyed for everyday use."Oil lantern"
I already had a battery-powered lantern, and it created a nice atmosphere when spending time with my partner.
When you think about it, "home camping" has already begun.

↑So this is how it created a peaceful midsummer night. So why bother buying something as troublesome as an oil lantern?
In response to this question, I would say it is an unreasonable desire.Gadgets are fun because they require effort" I arrive at the answer lol
I'm drawn to things that have a gimmick and as a result have beautiful visuals. I think this is the basis of being a gadget lover.
It also seems that the longer a person has been camping, the more particular they are about oil lanterns.
That was a long introduction, but that's how we ended up introducing a full-fledged lantern to our exciting "home camping" experiences.
My definition of home camping

By the way, what is "home camping"?
My idea of "home camping" is literally having a mini-camp at home using the limited camping gear you currently have.
This time we looked at lanterns, but the theme was for each individual to enjoy "home camping" using just a few limited items, such as a chair, a gas stove, or a sleeping bag.
The advantage of doing a mini-camp inside your home is that you can enjoy a decent atmosphere all year round, without being affected by the weather or temperature.
In my case it's a lantern, but even just that creates a nice atmosphere.
Also, although I only have a lantern right now, I also have a free-standing hammock on the balcony, so I'd like to try camping at home using the hammock and a sleeping bag one day.
Enjoy the time of camping at home in your city life
As someone who is somewhat older now, the world today seems a little too busy.
When we were children, we had infinite time, and there was eternal time with fireworks, campfires, candles on birthday cakes, and other gentle ``fire'' in our daily lives.
Only when the fire is lit is it a magical time when time flows equally for children and adults.
No matter how old I am, fire and flames always transport me back to time in slow motion.
One of the joys of "home camping" is spending time together with your partner.
When you feel a little down inside, try to make a fire yourself, which is not an artificial thing but a wonder of the natural world. Then the lit space will become a relaxing space.
I feel that "home camping" can be achieved with just one item.
So I'll enjoy some sweet hot cocoa while gazing at the lights...
Your heart will be filled with happiness and you will feel like you are camping outdoors, gazing at the brilliantly shining Milky Way.
Why I chose the Deitz D78 as my first oil lantern

Although they are all called oil lanterns, there are many different types available from different brands.
There are many websites that clearly explain the types of lanterns, so I will not go into detail here. The lantern I bought is from an American brand.DIETZ's "Hurricane Lantern D78"This is an oil lantern.
Simply add paraffin oil, take a little time, and light the wick to get it ignited.
*The gimmicks leading up to that point are fun.
The reason I chose the DIETZ D78 lantern is that, after being tempted by many other lanterns, I was attracted to DIETZ lanterns because of their affordable price range, beautiful design, and above all, the background of the DIETZ company.
It's my personal habit that unless the item has a captivating concept or a solid backstory, I'm not motivated to buy it.
Among all the Deitz lanterns, I was captivated by the beauty of the D78 lantern, which has the most balanced size.
Since "home camping" is done in the same room as usual, I wanted to be particular about the things I use, even if just a little.
Furthermore, while many companies offer case colors such as bronze and silver,Deitz has a lineup of sophisticated colors: black and gold. This was the deciding factor for me to purchase.
In the video above, there is a battery-powered lantern placed next to it for comparison (sorry if it's hard to see...), but the actual Deitz D78 was about two sizes larger than expected.
I had always thought that battery-powered lanterns were the normal size, so this was unexpectedly large. However, once you get used to it, you'll find that the sheer size of this lantern is addictive.
Perhaps it's the overwhelming presence of the lantern as an object, or the unique black and gold colors, that give it a solid presence that really appeals to people.
The charm of the Deitz D78 black and gold is the charismatic presence of the lump of metal that emits a dull glow, capturing my gaze and never letting go.
And it is this lantern that makes our "home camping" nights so enjoyable.

Let's digress and take a look at the history of Deitz.
DIETZ has a long history.Founded in 1840 as a lighting products company in New York, USA.Deitz was one of the first to start manufacturing lanterns using flat cores, which was revolutionary at the time. They also applied the technology behind "hurricane lanterns" that could be used even in strong winds, and this technology has been passed down to later Deitz hurricane lanterns.
DIETZ
As the product name suggests, the lantern is a "hurricane lantern," and it has a big performance unique to America: it can keep a flame burning even when exposed to typhoon-like storms.
A lantern for "home camping" with a little gimmick
The Deitz Hurricane Lantern D78 is an analog lantern and cannot be turned on with the flip of a switch.
You need to take the time to do it.
Although handling fire can be intimidating at first, once you get used to it the ritual becomes fun.

First, open the fuel cap and pour in the special paraffin oil.Two-thirds of the tankYou need to inject it until
However, there are no specific markings, so at first I just poured in as much oil as I could until it overflowed.
Even after closing the lid, oil continued to drip for a while...
No matter how much I wipe, the oil keeps dripping...
But this is also a fun part of the ritual.
By the way, do not light the fire immediately after adding the oil.
You will need to wait for the oil to soak into the wick, so wait 20 to 30 minutes the first time.

On the left side of the D78 body there is a lever that lifts the lantern's shade (the glass part); pulling it down will expose the wick.
Simply remove the wick and light it, and you will be able to successfully light it.
Once the fire is lit, gently return the lever to its up position and close the hood.

If the wick is fully exposed, a pillar of flame will shoot up with great force.
If you turn the rotating lever on the right side of the main unit counterclockwise, the wick will retract downwards and the flame will weaken, so adjust it to your preference.

This extra step is so adorable.
The gimmick is to create your own fire. I think all of you gadget lovers will understand.
Also, once a fire has been lit, there will come a time when it must be put out.
The moment when the fire is put out is a very lonely feeling, and makes you long for the next time you can light it again.
And when we turned on the lights in the room, our "home camping" came to an end.
I truly believe that lanterns are lovely items that embody that sense of wabi-sabi.
Other attractive lanterns besides the Deitz Hurricane Lantern D78

Of course, I wasn't immediately captivated by Deitz's lantern.
I would like to end by introducing the lanterns that captivated me before I arrived at the Deitz D78, a must-have item for "home camping."
↑The first thing that caught my eye was actually this LED lantern lol
The shape is very stylish. I quickly got into the world of oil lanterns so I didn't end up buying one, but I think it's good to have one when camping because it ensures brightness.
↑The next thing that caught my interest was the Captain Stag oil lantern.
Not knowing anything about the brand, I was on the fence about this one and was unaware of the other options. It's a good lantern, but I don't really like the color.
↑Isn't this cool? This is the one I fell in love with at first sight.
The indescribable old-fashioned mood penetrates your heart.
I was torn between this and the Deitz oil lantern.
↑Feuerhand is a historic brand that is equally as popular as Deitz.
Until the very end, I was undecided whether to go with Deitz or Feuerhand.
In the end, the appeal of the black and gold color won out, but this brand is also highly regarded.
↑Petromax is a German camping manufacturer that was founded over 100 years ago and has produced classic lanterns that are considered the pinnacle of the lantern world.
A classic example, the HK500 is still the envy of campers and reigns supreme among lanterns.
I would like one someday too.
Summary
I have briefly written about how to enjoy "home camping" and the appeal of the DIETZ Hurricane Lantern D78.What did you think?
Summer will soon be over and the cool weather of autumn will arrive.
Lanterns are not that expensive, and while they have a fun little gimmick, they can also add a gentle touch to any space, whether outdoors or indoors. Unlike a bonfire, the fire is small, but when you focus on one point and look at the light, you will find yourself strangely and naturally immersed in mindfulness.
And you can enjoy "room camping" with just one lantern...
autumn…
During this season, why not grab a lantern and a cup of coffee and enjoy the long nights with your friends or loved ones, accompanied by a small lamp?
I'm sure that these little lights will light up the beautiful autumn night sky.
Thank you for your patronage!
