Are you enjoying winter camping?
If you want to enjoy camping in comfort during the cold winter, a comfortable sleeping bag is essential.
I myself had only been doing day camping for a few months and hadn't even thought about a sleeping bag yet, but due to various circumstances I decided to switch to overnight camping starting in April of this year and was forced to purchase a sleeping bag.
I probably won't be camping in the middle of summer, so I'm considering buying a winter sleeping bag that can be used in other seasons.
Meeting with NEMO SONIC0

Although I get cold easily, I like camping in the winter.
That means you'll want a sleeping bag that's warm enough to last even during the harsh winter!
However, I wanted a lightweight, stylish sleeping bag that was within my budget, so I started gathering information.
At first, I was looking for well-known brands,
I had a hard time deciding between them; it was too expensive, the temperature wasn't comfortable, and it was too heavy.
So I asked a question on LINE's open chat and was introduced to a brand called "NEMO," so I decided to look into it.
There I came across a high-spec model sleeping bag called "Sonic Zero" from NEMO.
NEMO SONIC0 was the strongest

The Sonic Zero uses natural down and has a comfortable temperature range of -10℃, yet weighs only 1.4kg. Its list price is 70,400 yen, but it is often sold at half price during the off-season. Combined with NEMO's unique feature called "Thermo Gill," which will be described later, this makes it stand out in terms of cost performance and comfort compared to other brands of sleeping bags.
Also, while this can be said of all NEMO sleeping bags, while other manufacturers' sleeping bags all have simple colors and shapes, NEMO puts effort into color and design, making them perfect for people looking for a sleeping bag that is different from the rest.
I think the combination of grey and yellow on the Sonic Zero is very cool and professional. By the way, there is a flagship model called "Sonic-20" that is one step above the Sonic Zero, and it has an incredible specification of a minimum operating temperature of -29℃. (The comfortable operating temperature has not been announced.)
NEMO SONIC0 specs
I looked up the specs of Sonic Zero.
Part Number | NEMO SONIC0 |
Comfortable working temperature | -10 ℃ |
Lower limit temperature | -18 ℃ |
Storage size | φ24×34cm |
weight | About XNUM X g |
Amount of down | Down 800FP/790g |
Price | 70,400JPY |
As a result, we found that it competes with high-spec models from other companies, such as Montbell's Seamless Down Hugger 800EXP and NANGA's Aurora Lite 900DX.
Features of NEMO SONIC0
So, what makes Sonic Zero superior to the two companies mentioned above? There are three main features.
You can put a pillow in your sleeping bag

It may seem like a small thing, but it turned out to be a big thing when I actually tried it.
It can be used as a pillow by putting a small pillow or cloth inside.
This eliminates the hassle of having to unzip your sleeping bag and go pick up your pillow if it slips off the cot.
This is a huge advantage.
The one and only temperature control function "ThermoGill"

The biggest feature that sets NEMO's Sonic Zero apart from other companies is its temperature control function called "ThermoGill." The two yellow zippers on the surface of the product serve this purpose.
By opening and closing this zipper, it will let in cool air when you are sleeping and it gets too hot.
I'm quite sensitive to both cold and heat, so I found this feature extremely useful.
By the way, the zipper of the Thermogill can be opened and closed from the inside.
It's a little difficult to open and close...
Waterproof and breathable

A nice feature of the Sonic Zero is that the fabric under the feet is waterproof and breathable.
Isn't this a great benefit for those who use sleeping bag covers?
With this, you can be free from the nightmare of your sleeping bag getting soaked with condensation, and you also won't have to carry a sleeping bag cover.
I think this is a costly part for the manufacturer.
This shows how serious NEMO is.
Now, the cold resistance test

Early March, 3:23 PM.
The impression was given on the balcony of a four-story apartment building in Tokyo.
The test involves sleeping in a sleeping bag placed on top of a freestanding hammock.
The current outside temperature is 6°C. *Alexa's voice information says that it will drop to 0°C in the morning.
The clothing consisted of cotton pajamas, a long-sleeved merino wool shirt underneath, merino wool tights, and merino wool socks.
I have absolute confidence in my NEMO SONIC 0, and since the outside temperature isn't below freezing, this may be overkill, but I want to be extra careful.

When I went out onto the balcony, it was really cold.
I immediately crawl into my sleeping bag.
The fabric is very smooth, so it feels great to get in.
My first impression was...super warm!
The wind is a little strong tonight, but there is no sign of cold air getting through my sleeping bag.
I tend to get cold feet, but there is just the right amount of space and air under my feet, so they stay warm.
As expected, the comfortable temperature specification is -10℃!
In addition, the NEMO Sonic Zero's fabric is soft and smooth, making it feel like you're wrapped in a high-quality blanket.
There was no feeling of the fabric being cold when it touched my skin.
It may be different if you are camping at an altitude of over 1000 meters, but at least when camping on flat ground, it is unlikely that these specs will be insufficient.
We tested it in a hammock without a mat, and it performed unbeatably.
*I had a lot of trouble getting into the sleeping bag in the hammock so I asked the staff for help ^^;

Before I knew it, I fell asleep and slept without incident until morning.

Dawn... It was comfortable inside the sleeping bag. My exposed face was cold, but the rest of me was warm as I greeted the morning sun.
Summary
What did you think?
NEMO's Sonic Zero lineup also includes a sleeping bag for women called the "KAYU 15 ws," which has the second highest cold-resistance specifications after this product.
This model has a comfortable operating temperature of -8℃, weighs 1,150g, and is reasonably priced at around 3 to 5 yen.
I want to get gear that's different from what other people have.
For such people, we recommend NEMO.
