In order to chop firewood in a camper, you need a base called a "firewood chopping block," but this is surprisingly heavy!
A sturdy firewood chopping block can weigh several kilograms.
It may be possible to transport this in a car, but it would be extremely difficult for campers on foot.
This weight cannot be overlooked, especially for so-called UL campers.
↓↓↓This is the wood splitting stand I used until now. Even though it’s a normal size, it weighs 900g.
Instagram had the answer
While browsing Instagram, I happened to come across a video of someone splitting firewood using a large, thin board.
I was really curious about this, so I inquired about it and found out that they make firewood chopping blocks out of bamboo.
After watching the video, I immediately knew this was what I was looking for, so I decided to buy it.
First impression
An unparalleled lightness gadget

When I weighed the firewood splitter that arrived, it was a whopping 73g.
It is so light that it overturns the conventional wisdom about firewood splitting tables.
Apparently they used bamboo instead of wood to achieve this lightness, which shows the high level of processing technology. It's so light that I'm a little worried about whether it's really possible to split firewood with it.
Compact and easy to store

It's quite compact and thin, so you can easily slip it into your backpack anywhere.
Also, although it is removed in the photo, when you purchase it, there is a rope attached to the loop, so you can attach it to a carabiner on your backpack and carry it around.
Beauty that satisfies the sense of ownership

Beautifully finished walnut-look boards cannot be achieved with ordinary methods.
It seems he had a lot of trouble, applying two coats of oil stain and trying several different types of brushes.
Their efforts paid off, and a beautiful pattern was carved into the stone.
The appearance of the object shows a high level of perfection.
How it actually felt when used to chop firewood
A stable firewood chopping stand!

Although I was a little worried, I actually tried using it to chop firewood while camping.
At first, I was worried that the finish was quite glossy and that it might slip, but I was able to use it for batoning without any problems. I was able to use it for batoning without any slipping or shifting, and I was able to confirm that it worked properly as a firewood chopping block.
More durable than wood

The key point about this product is that it would be too difficult to achieve this thinness and lightness using wood, as there would be too many durability issues.
So bamboo was used instead of wood.
Bamboo is flexible, lightweight and highly impact resistant.
It is difficult to create the right texture, but once that hurdle is overcome, we create a unique firewood chopping block that is unlike any other.
Feather sticks are easy to make

This chopping block also has holes in it which are designed to provide a stable base when making feather sticks.
I tried making a few, and I was able to immerse myself in making feather sticks steadily.
The mess tin can also be used as a cutting board

As an added bonus, it fits perfectly as a lid for a 1 go mess tin.
It can be used as a mess tin lid or a cutting board.
This is a very useful bonus feature.
