Is the ELECOM EX-G really less tiring? A thorough review of the medically developed ergonomic mouse

this timeKeyboard revampIn addition, I also gave my mouse a makeover.
It's not that I was dissatisfied with my previous ELECOM mouse, but rather that it had become so familiar to my hand that it had become a part of my body, so I was quite hesitant to choose a new mouse.Such a mouseI also used it.

As a result, I thought it would be interesting to have a mouse that takes the human body into consideration, so I bought the ELECOM "EX-G" and would like to review it this time. Since it is also made by ELECOM, I thought it would be reliable.

What is ELECOM EX-G?

ELECOM's "EX-G" series is a mouse developed in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons, aiming to minimize the burden on the wrist and fingers. It features a design that allows you to operate it just by resting your hand naturally, and is designed to reduce fatigue even with long periods of use. There aren't many mice with this kind of medical ergonomic design, are there?

After some research, I found out that it was developed with the cooperation of Dr. Miyagawa Ichiro, director of Narashinodai Orthopedic Surgery and Internal Medicine, and aims to minimize strain on the wrist and fingers by pursuing the optimal angle and shape for the muscles in the hand.

The feeling of actually operating it

ELECOM EX-G Package

Let's start with the package.
They put a strong emphasis on collaboration with the medical field, which shows how confident they are.

ELECOM EX-G Package 2

Inside the box was another box with a matryoshka doll inside. This is a bit overprotective. There's no need to double-pack anything...

Instructions on the back of the package.

ELECOM EX-G

The mouse itself has a very organic shape and I think it's simply beautiful.
I always think that whether it's a keyboard or a mouse, beauty is the most important thing.
It's hard to accept a product that doesn't have that quality. This mouse has an elegant shape and feminine lines, and if you change the look it could even look like a muscular man's body, which I thought was beautiful.

When I actually held it, my first impression was, "It's huge!" It comes in two sizes, M and L, and I chose M, but it was still too big for my hand.
It feels like you're gripping it really well, and you can feel its weight. Moving the mouse feels like moving a mountain, which is so different from how it feels to use now that it feels really strange.

I guess this is just a matter of getting used to it...

I compared the EX-G to my previous ELECOM mouse, and there is a big difference in size. That's why it feels strange...

Hillock, which was introduced in a previous article

I tried using it for a few hours, but decided to switch to the same small ELECOM mouse.
this andHillock(Hillrock)This combo may be the strongest. (I'm already complaining.)

However, it's not all bad, there are some good points as well.
It's very comfortable on the wrist.
My previous mouse required me to move it with the top of my palm, so after using it for a while, the bottom of my palm started to hurt without Hillock.

In contrast, the EX-G feels like you are moving it with your arm, which makes delicate operations a little difficult, but dynamically moving the mouse feels very easy and I can really feel the benefits of its ergonomics.

Amazing height

However, compared to the mouse I had been using, the EX-G mouse is about 1.5 times taller, so I found myself holding it in the same way I would hold a vertical mouse, which can be a bit of a drawback.

It's a bit stressful to have to check every time that you're holding it properly.

Dedicated software
ELECOM dedicated software

For delicate operations, it seems that you can switch DPI,Dedicated softwareI tried using it but I couldn't find where the switch was. My MacOS is 12.4. The latest version of the dedicated software can be used from MacOS13, but it is not compatible with my Mac, so I am using the dedicated software of the next version. Maybe that is the reason.

With the default settings, it's difficult for me to move the heavy mouse quickly and precisely, so for example, when cutting out something in Photoshop, I can't draw anchor points on delicate parts, so I think it might be a bit difficult for people who use a mouse for work. *In my case, I usually use a pen tablet for work, so it's not a problem.

Click to play.

Also, my previous mouse made a loud clicking noise, but this one makes a quieter clicking noise, so I think it's great for people who use their computers late at night while being considerate of their family. I've posted a comparison video above, so please take a look if you'd like.

There are two buttons on the thumb side and one on the mouse wheel side, but both felt a little far away for my fingers, and I got the impression that the M-size mouse is designed with adult men in mind.

By default, the buttons on the thumb side are assigned to the browser's "back" and "forward" buttons, and the button on the mouse wheel side is assigned to the mouse lock.
The back and forward buttons are easy to feel, but the center button doesn't have many protrusions, so it's hard to find by touch. I think this is probably a matter of getting used to it.

But having a back button is very handy.
I had assigned the "delete" button on my keyboard as the back button, but being able to go back on the browser without taking your hands off the mouse is a huge plus.

In any case, rather than gripping the mouse with a solid mouse, it feels like your hand is resting on it, which I think is good for people with large hands. It gives you an unparalleled fit, like the mouse is a cockpit and your hands are the driver. Honestly, it feels great.
And above all, it has an ergonomic design that is closer to medical grade. I think it's great that you can use it for any length of time without getting tired.

Summary

This was a bit of a harsh review.
However, it's not a bad product, and I think it would be extremely comfortable to use for an adult male with an average-sized palm.
However, for me, who is used to the small ELECOM, it is just a little big and heavy.
It would have been good if I had done some research at an electronics store.

When buying the ELECOM EX-G, I thought that if you are a woman, you should buy the small size without hesitation.

I'll use this mouse a bit more, but I wonder if I'll get used to it.
Yeah, I believe you'll get used to it.
