Crisp bass! Review of Yamaha NX-50 PC speakers

YAMAHA NX-50

Hello everyone. I'm T, an editor at the company who has changed PC speakers many times and is currently searching for new ones.

Due to the nature of my job in video production, I used to use monitor speakers that are faithful to the original sound, but recently I have started producing videos using monitor headphones, so my expectations for PC speakers have changed to being better for listening to music and being cost-effective.

In the midst of all this, I have purchased some new PC speakers, so I would like to introduce them to you.

The BOSE Companion 2 I used before

My desktop
The BOSE speakers I used at the time

Before we moved our office, we were using the Bose Companion 2 Series III multimedia speaker system.

This was also quite good, with particularly good crispness in the mid- and high-range sounds.
They give the impression of being able to reproduce any sound evenly, and although they are a little pricey, they still provide sound that is well worth the price, making them a PC speaker that I still recommend.
The actual selling price is about 14,000 yen.

However, when moving, you may accidentally drop them on the concrete floor and one of the speakers may break.

Audio equipment is very delicate, isn't it? If I were to drop it and damage it, I'd be a complete failure as a video creator! I told myself.

The loneliness of no speakers

My Desktop #2

So that's why my desktop lost its speakers.
It looks lonely after all. lol

The music that the iMac plays is much better quality than a cheap speaker, but there's still one thing missing...bass.

So, to make a fresh start, I decided to buy some new speakers.

Purchased Yamaha NX-50

The speakers I bought

The newest addition to the desktop family is the Yamaha powered speaker "NX-50."
Maximum output 7W + 7W, actual selling price is about 9,000 yen

It looks very professional lol
I chose this one because of its specs and the good reviews on Amazon.

Also, it is about 5,000 yen cheaper than Bose speakers, so I was hoping for good value for money.
Here's a photo of it actually on my desk:

I put the NX-50 on my desk.

Don't you think it fits in pretty well?
I think it gives a much more professional feel.

Ah, having speakers on your desk really makes you feel calm...

The bass comes out beautifully!

As for the actual sound, I felt that the bass in particular had a beautiful rise to the sound.
It's not a thumping bass, but it has a gentle bass that gives you the feeling of a wide sound field.

I have a 7.1ch AV amplifier in my house, and I usually listen to music through AirPlay, and it actually produces pretty good sound ( ̄ー ̄) smirk

The sound resolution is perhaps a step behind that of the Bose Companion.
In particular, the vocals seemed a little dull.

Other than that the quality exceeds the price!
It produces sound without any complaints.

The secret lies in the bass reflex port located on the entire front.
Although it is a small speaker, the large-capacity bass reflex port makes full use of the inside of the housing box, producing rich bass sounds.

Comparison with BOSE Companion

A little biased, but from a filmmaker's perspective, I compared the sound of the Bose Companion 2 Series III and the Yamaha NX-50.

I evaluated it from my own perspective.
Both BOSE and Yamaha have their pros and cons, but I think Yamaha offers the best value for money...

Besides bass, Yamaha is superior to BOSE in sound image positioning.
This is about the sense of position, such as where the instruments are located.

This is where the Yamaha XN-50 was clearly superior to the Bose.

I'm happy with the two inputs

The front interface has a simple and easy-to-use design.
A headphone jack, volume controls, and a power button.

The interface is all-inclusive and easy to use.
*Some models have it on the back.

On the back, there are two line inputs, which is unusual for this type of speaker.
Even when connected to a computer, you still have one input left over, so it's convenient to be able to connect a game console or TV.
It seems like it will be surprisingly useful.

Other products on the list of purchases

I will also post some other products that I was unsure about purchasing.

First up is the Bose Companion 5.
With a 4.1ch setup with woofer and surround speakers, I think these are currently the strongest PC speakers!
A new one costs around 40,000 yen, and a used one costs around 22,000 yen. This is almost an AV device.

Next up is this.
I was quite torn between buying these speakers, which are USB-powered and have three input systems: Bluetooth, USB, and wired connection, but since I already have an AV amplifier, I decided not to buy them as I didn't think I needed so many input systems.
But I'm really curious about what the sound quality will be like. The design is also nice.
The price is around 5,000 yen.

Creative Pebble V3 Input Switching (USB Audio/Bluetooth 5.0/3.5mm Pin Input) 8W RMS Peak Output 16W USB Type-C/Type-A SP-PBLV3-BK
Creative Media

This is the last one.
These are speakers designed for gaming PCs, but what makes them so great is their powerful 16W bass output and six lighting modes!
Apparently, looking at my previous posts, I have a weakness for color-changing gadgets lol
The price is also quite reasonable, around 3,000 yen.

Summary

A slightly more expensive speaker can easily cost several tens of thousands of yen, but if you gather information wisely, you can get PC speakers these days that are affordable and provide sufficient performance without spending that much.

This time, I gave myself a little pat on the back for making a good purchase.
That was the story.

See You Again!!
