I bought the Apple AirTag, which was released today, at the Apple Store in Shibuya.
This is a product that I've been interested in for quite some time, and personally I'd been paying more attention to it than the new iMac that was also announced, so I'm ecstatic to finally be able to get my hands on it.
It seems like the details have already been covered in various media outlets even before the release, but I'd like to put that aside and write my own review, along with the joy of getting it.
What is AirTag?
AirTag is an innovative IoT device that uses Bluetooth to help locate lost items attached to the AirTag.
If you lose your item, you can use the Find My app on your iPhone or Mac to track the location of the lost item and find out its exact location.
However, because it uses Bluetooth, there are gaps in the searchable area.
AirTags uses approximately 10 billion Apple products around the world to connect to each other via Bluetooth to help find lost items.
All of your iPhones and Macs will work together to help you locate any lost items that have your AirTag attached.
Now that we have an overview, let's take a look at the design and unboxing it.
The extremely minimalist design of the AirTag

The exterior packaging is very simple. However, I was frustrated at first because I didn't know how to open it.
When I took it out, the item I was looking for appeared with a simple instruction manual.
The instructions are very easy to understand, but I won't go into detail here.

It is very small and shaped just like an Othello board.
It's also very thin, so you can just throw it in your purse or bag without having to attach a special accessory strap.
By the way, being the kind of person who likes to show things off, I made sure to buy some special accessories.
AirTag accessories

I bought a strap made by Apple so I could attach it to my bag.
As it is an original product, it fits perfectly into the AirTag without any deviation.
There are many other accessories available for sale, but last time we introduced products made overseas.
There are so many different foreign products on the market that it really whets your desire to buy things.
Personally, I'm interested in Hermes straps.

It was very easy to attach to the bag.
Simply loop the end of the AirTag attached through the rubber ring.
This completes the show-off look lol
↓This is not genuine, but if you search you will find various accessories.
How to set up and use AirTags
There is already a wealth of information on the Internet about detailed usage and setup instructions, so here I will only list the minimum initial settings.

- Update iOS to the latest version, 14.5.
- Next, turn on Bluetooth on your iPhone device.
- Hold your iPhone close to the AirTag and tap "Connect."
- Name your AirTag as you like.

- Tap "Continue" on the Apple ID registration screen.
- Tap "Use this iPhone" to complete the pairing setup.

Next, we will use the Find My app to search for an item that has an AirTag attached.
- Open the Find My app and tap Continue.
- Tap Show in Find My App.

The location of the item with the AirTag was displayed on the map.
By the way, if you press the "Find" button, it will navigate you to the lost item, as shown in the image on the right.
Additionally, if you press "Play Sound," the AirTag will emit a high-pitched pulse sound, making it easier to locate your lost item.
That's how to set up and use AirTags.
It's very easy.
I tried attaching AirTags to various things.
AirTga can protect a variety of things depending on your ideas.
So I tried attaching and installing it to various things to test out its usability.

I think the thing most people are likely to attach to is a keychain, right?
The strap I bought this time is for a bag, so it looks a bit strange, but the AirTag is very light and can be easily handled even when attached to a key chain.

I bought it for my bag so I think this is fine.
Depending on the pattern and color of the bag, the look can be flashy, so you'll want to choose the color of the strap carefully.

Wallets are something that are easy to accidentally leave behind in a taxi.
I tried putting it in my coin purse and the thickness wasn't too noticeable, and it blended in with my wallet without any problems.

Since I am physically and mentally disabled, I need this to store my various disability certificates, documents, and medical card.
But I often lose it lol
So I tried it, and it worked fine even in a full binder.
これはいいかも。

It doesn't help prevent theft, but it might actually be useful for things like removing your bike. You don't have to ask where it was removed.
However, the sound of the AieTag is quite loud, so I wonder if it will disturb my neighbors...

I borrowed the business card holder from editorial staff member M.
I always forget where I put my business card holder.
This is an aluminum business card holder, but it's not flexible so it was a bit of a challenge.
A leather business card holder might hold more than you think.

The number one thing that gets lost is probably an umbrella.
If you lose an umbrella at a convenience store, you probably won't be too bothered, but if it's a high-quality umbrella, the shock of losing it would be a big deal.
I think this might be a good idea.
The scope of AieTag's use may be expanded even further depending on your surroundings and your ideas.
I heard it works with Android?
It seems that AirTags work with Android.
That said, this does not mean that the product will be usable on Android, but rather that if you find a lost item with an AirTag attached and hold it up to an Android smartphone, it will have a function that will display the owner's information on the Android screen.
I live in Tokyo, where there are surprisingly many kind people, so if I lose my phone, I hope that someone will find it and hold it over their smartphone.
Android users! If you find a lost item with an AirTag attached, please hold your smartphone over it.
Twitter Reactions
Today is the first day of the release of AirTags, and we have some excerpts of how excited people are on Twitter. It seems that some people have already turned them into bricks.
Summary
I'm very satisfied with my purchase; it's so convenient that I'd like to buy two more, and as a gadget it has a very attractive and compelling appeal.
The combination of minimalist design and high quality textures made this a gem that made me want to spend more.
This product is highly recommended for people who tend to lose things a lot.
One last thing...isn't the iPhone actually the easiest thing to lose?
Was that the typical punch line?
